The Role of Flux in Soldering

The Role of Flux in Soldering
In the simplest of terms, flux helps achieve a good solder joint. How does it do this? Lots of ways!
*Cleans
*Deoxidizes
*Contributes to a more uniform and properly wetted joint微信截图_20230327094609
I was assisting with a selective solder program this week. Even though the wave looked perfect at the tip of the nozzle, the solder was not flowing properly through the via. As a result, the solder side of the board would look great. However, upon inspection of the component side you would find insufficient solder.

By increasing the amount of flux, it gave the solder the extra encouragement it needed to flow through the vias and achieve a uniform fillet on the component side of the board also. The video shows the solder flowing through each via as the wave passes underneath.
